In 2017, Canadian body modification enthusiast Catt Gallinger decided to transform her look in an extreme way . Covered in tattoos and no stranger to bold self-expression, she chose to undergo a rare procedure called a sclera tattoo — injecting ink directly into the white part of the eye to permanently change its color. She wanted a vivid purple shade to contrast her natural green eyes

But within hours, everything went wrong. Instead of healing, purple ink began leaking from her eye . It swelled shut, became painfully inflamed, and developed an infection. Photos later showed purple tears streaming down her face.
