On November 21, 2010, U.S. Marine William “Kyle” Carpenter was serving in Helmand Province, Afghanistan. During a Taliban att@ck, an expl#sive device landed near him and fellow Marine Nick Eufrazio. Carpenter moved toward it, absorbing most of the blast and helping save his fellow Marine.
He suffered severe injuries, including major damage to his face and arm and the loss of his right eye. After years of surgeries and rehabilitation, he recovered.
