In a quiet room at Columbia University Irving Medical Center, a man from the Bronx — known as Mr. Spencer — knew his time was near.
He didn’t ask for comfort.
He didn’t ask for anything for himself.
He asked to see his dogs… Bowie and Nikki.
With no one left to care for them, hospital staff reached out to NYC Second Chance Rescue — hoping they could make one last moment possible.
And they did.
When Bowie and Nikki walked into the room, they went straight to him… as if they knew. Tails wagging, bodies pressed close, just wanting to be near him one more time.
He held them. He comforted them.
And in that moment, nothing else mattered.
Around them, doctors and nurses stood quietly, many unable to hold back tears.
A few hours later… he was gone.
But before he left, there was a promise made — that his dogs would stay together, that they would be safe, that they would be loved.
Now, they’re still side by side… waiting for a new home, carrying the love he gave them into whatever comes next.
Because even at the end, his heart wasn’t focused on himself…
