Chernobyl’s massive steel shield — built to trap radiation from Reactor 4 — was reportedly damaged in a drone strike, and the IAEA later said it lost part of its key “confinement” function.

That means the structure is still standing, but it may no longer fully do the job it was designed for. Radiation levels were reported as stable for now, but experts say major repairs are still needed.
