New Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar made a dramatic statement live on Hungarian state television, announcing the suspension of the very system he says has operated as a government-controlled media machine under Viktor Orbán.

“We will immediately suspend this deceitful news service that is going on here,” Magyar said on air, calling out what critics have long described as a tightly controlled media environment. Notably, Magyar himself had previously been blocked from appearing on state TV before rising to power.
