In 1993, during the Great Flood, James Scott was accused of intentionally damaging a levee near West Quincy, causing thousands of acres of farmland to flood. Prosecutors claimed he did it to strand his wife so he could keep partying.

He was convicted of causing the disaster and sentenced to life in prison. Scott has always maintained his innocence, and some still question whether the levee failure was truly his fault or part of the massive natural flooding already underway.
