Mason, who has cerebral palsy and is nonverbal, finds comfort and calm in the music’s powerful sound. What started with Metallica helping soothe him as a baby grew into attending live concerts together beginning in 2008.
Over the past 16 years, the pair have traveled across the country to attend more than 1,200 shows. In 2017, Richard founded Mason MetalFest—an inclusive, award-winning annual festival designed to raise awareness and support for cerebral palsy.
