U.S. President Donald Trump said that the United States has “won” the war with Iran and claimed the country’s military has been “virtually destroyed.” Speaking at a rally in Kentucky, Trump said American forces had heavily damaged Iran’s military capabilities, including destroying dozens of Iranian naval ships. However, he also said the U.S. should not withdraw too quickly and that operations may continue to “finish the job.”

Trump also told reporters that the war could end soon because there is “practically nothing left to target” in Iran after days of U.S. and allied strikes. Despite the claim of victory, fighting and tensions in the region are still ongoing, with attacks continuing across the Middle East and concerns about global oil supplies and regional stability.

Spring has been postponed

Sen. John Kennedy is pushing a bill that would stop members of Congress from getting paid during a government shutdown.

The proposal — which just moved forward in the Senate — would withhold paychecks from senators if they fail to keep the government open, arguing lawmakers shouldn’t be paid while federal workers and services are caught in the middle of political gridlock.

Kennedy says the idea is simple: if Congress can’t do its basic job and prevent a shutdown, taxpayers shouldn’t have to keep paying them.
