Onion Gravy

Rich and Savory Caramelized Onion Gravy

Ingredients:

2 large onions, thinly sliced

2 tablespoons unsalted butter

1 tablespoon olive oil

2 cloves garlic, minced

2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

2 cups beef or vegetable broth

1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

Salt and pepper to taste

Fresh thyme (optional, for garnish)

Directions:

In a large skillet, heat butter and olive oil over medium heat until melted.

Add sliced onions and cook slowly, stirring occasionally, until deeply caramelized and golden brown, about 25-30 minutes.

Stir in minced garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.

Sprinkle the flour over the onions and stir continuously for 2 minutes to cook the flour and create a roux.

Gradually whisk in the broth, making sure there are no lumps.

Add Worcestershire sauce, then simmer the gravy, stirring frequently, until thickened, about 5-7 minutes.

Season with salt and pepper to taste. Garnish with fresh thyme if desired.

Serve warm over mashed potatoes, roast meats, or vegetables.
