New Google Pixel Smartphones Set to Launch on August 20

Buckle up! Google is throwing a party next month. Samsung announced its new Galaxy Z Fold 7 (check out my review here), the Z Flip 7, and the Galaxy Watch 8 and 8 Classic last week, and Google is going next before Apple will likely do its annual iPhone and Apple Watch event in September.

Google has just announced an event for August 20, where it will “introduce the latest addition to our Pixel portfolio of devices.” Whatever could Google be hinting at? I’m sure it couldn’t be the Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, and Pixel 10 Pro XL that were already leaked months ago. It’s also very likely we’ll see a Pixel 10 Pro Fold. I’ll be most interested in seeing whether that book-style foldable competes with Samsung’s superb Galaxy Z Fold 7.

Google also typically uses its events to announce Pixel accessories like the Pixel Watch 3 at last year’s summer event or the Pixel Buds 2 Pro wireless earbuds from before that. I wouldn’t bet against new Pixel Watch 4 (in two sizes) or wireless earbuds showing up.

One thing you can definitely bet on Google spending ample time on is AI, and specifically Gemini AI. Google spent almost the entirety of its I/O developer conference in May talking up the merits and improvements it’s made to its AI models and chatbot. AI will change how you use your phone—definitely, for real this time… maybe. And Gemini will be at the front of all of it.

Gizmodo will be at the event covering all the new Pixel announcements and AI developments. So mark your calendar, cause August is about to get turbulent.
